Hurling

Ballyea has a proud tradition of hurling in the school and has an excellent relationship with Ballyea Hurling Club. We are very proud of our past and present members of the Clare Senior Hurling Panel and of course of our past pupils who continue to represent the local club so well.

Between the months of November and June each year hurling is practised widely in the school. For several weeks of the year a visiting coach takes the children in the junior classes for coaching. A particular focus is on the refining of gross motor skills among the youngest of classes in a safe, fun filled environment.

Boys from 4th, 5th and 6th classes, who play hurling, are part of the school hurling panel, with weekly training and often play friendly matches among other schools in the area. Boys in 3rd and 4th classes take part in the annual indoor hurling tournament held in January each year. Ballyea National School also takes part in the INTO Mini-Sevens Hurling in the springtime. The Allianz Cuman na mBunscol Hurling Championships commence in April/ May each year and this year we shall compete in Division 2 of the Championship.
